As we celebrate 50 Years of Innovation at Power Adhesives, we are sitting down and talking with some of our brilliant team as part of our People of Power Adhesives Series.
Fourth up is Ian Lancey, Sales & Marketing Director. Ian joined Power Adhesives in 2023 and has extensive experience within the adhesive industry. During our chat, we discuss his vision for the future of distribution within the adhesive industry and, of course, Power Adhesives.
How did your journey with Power Adhesives begin?
After seeing their innovative spray hot melt adhesive technology being used at a customer site, I knew I had to learn more. In my 30-plus years in the adhesive industry, I’d honestly never seen anything quite like it. It was clear this was a company doing things differently.
What made you want to join the company?
It was really a combination of factors. Looking at the products, the people, the culture, and the exciting growth potential all played a part. Power Adhesives has a reputation for innovation and a collaborative approach to business that resonated with me right away, and I was excited to be a part of it.
How has your role evolved since then?
My role here is definitely multi-faceted and constantly evolving. I lead sales and marketing, oversee product and technical development, and play a part in shaping the broader strategic direction.
Driving positive change and focusing on what’s next is a big part of what I do. No two days are ever the same, which is exactly how I like it.
Do you have a personal favourite product or innovation from your time at Power Adhesives?
It’s hard to pick just one, but for me, there are three standout product groups. First is the world’s first fully biodegradable hot melt adhesive, which really set a benchmark for sustainability.
Second is our new technically advanced spray adhesives that are opening up new opportunities across industries. And third is our range of adhesives specifically developed for bonding difficult plastics. Each of these innovations reflects the forward-thinking approach that makes Power Adhesives unique.
What is your vision for the next phase of growth in Power Adhesives’ distribution network?
As we continue to develop new and more advanced hot melt solutions, expanding our distribution presence into new market sectors and territories will be a core growth strategy. I see tremendous opportunity to build deeper partnerships with distributors who share our commitment to innovation and customer service.
Beyond the next phase, what do you think the future of distribution – the next 10/15/20 years – looks like?
Looking further ahead, I believe distribution will evolve into a network of premium partners who operate as an extension of Power Adhesives on a global scale. These partners will deliver not only product, but also expertise, support, and local insight to help customers get the most from our technology wherever they are in the world.
Where do you see Power Adhesives in the next 5–10 years?
Given the drive and ambition of everyone here, I’m confident we’ll double the size of the business within the next five years and triple it over the next decade. They sound like bold predictions, but I truly believe in what we are doing here.
I also see us expanding into multi-site and regional manufacturing to support that growth and get even closer to our customers around the world.
