People of PA #6 Gary Temme, IT Manager & Quality Representative

As we celebrate 50 Years of Innovation at Power Adhesives, we are sitting down and talking with some of our brilliant team as part of our People of Power Adhesives Series.

Next up is Gary Temme, IT Manager & Quality Representative. Gary joined Power Adhesives in 2011, starting in the warehouse before moving into IT and quality leadership. During our chat, we discuss his journey through the business, how his role has evolved, and the impact of QA and ESG on the company’s growth and culture.

How did your journey with Power Adhesives begin?

I joined in 2011 as a Warehouse Operative, starting with Perpetual Inventory checks before moving into Goods Inwards and wider warehouse duties. In 2017, I transitioned into IT, turning a long-standing interest in computers into a career. With the company’s support, I achieved Microsoft certification and stepped into the IT Manager role.

Alongside IT, I also lead our Quality Management System. Since taking on that responsibility, we’ve consolidated ISO 9001:2015, achieved ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, and secured an EcoVadis Silver rating, progress that reflects the company’s commitment to doing things properly.

What made you choose to stay with the company for so long?

Opportunity and trust. Power Adhesives backed me to make a big career move from Warehouse to IT and gave me the space to grow. I’ve worked across departments, led meaningful projects, and seen the direct impact of improvements, whether that’s a faster network or a cleaner audit. The culture rewards ownership and continuous improvement; if you see a better way, you’re encouraged to make it happen.

How has your role evolved over the years?

I’ve gone from counting pallets to architecting systems. Today, I oversee IT infrastructure and security, including servers, networking, backups, identity, and endpoint management, ensuring our teams can work securely anywhere. I also manage data, systems, and change, moving us to structured SharePoint sites, rolling out HubSpot with governance, and reducing “shadow IT.”

Alongside IT, I lead quality management, guiding ISO 9001:2015 compliance, audits, process discipline, and corrective actions. I also work with our ESG Committee to provide data-driven sustainability oversight. Starting in the warehouse gave me insight into how quality, safety, and sustainability happen in practice, and I’m proud of our progress.

How have your experiences shaped the way you approach Power Adhesives’ QA and ESG programs?

Starting in the warehouse taught me that quality and sustainability live in the details, how we book stock, label items, segregate waste, or complete line checks. In IT, I learned that governance and data are non-negotiable. I bring those two perspectives together in QA and ESG by designing systems and processes for auditability, with clear ownership, simple evidence trails, and version-controlled documents.

I make sure everything is practical and usable, because procedures that sit on a shelf aren’t worth much, if something doesn’t work for the team at three o’clock on a busy Tuesday, we rewrite it. I also use data to drive decisions, creating dashboards for NC trends, training completion, and environmental metrics so we can focus on what really moves the needle.

What impact has QA and ESG had within the business, during your time at Power Adhesives?

The impact has been significant. We’ve strengthened certifications and governance, consolidating ISO 9001:2015 and aligning more closely with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. External recognition has followed, with a Silver EcoVadis rating across environment, labour and human rights, ethics, and procurement.

Waste management has improved through a multi-chamber baler and better segregation, pushing us towards 90% recyclability. Safety standards have risen with forklift initiatives, first-aid training, and clear PPE rules. Cleaner data from structured SharePoint sites, controlled folder creation, and secure backups has boosted efficiency.

Most importantly, non-conformances are now seen as opportunities for improvement, encouraging greater ownership and ideas.

Where do you see Power Adhesives in the next 5–10 years?

In the next decade, I see quality staying simple and embedded through right-first-time behaviours, light-touch problem-solving, and an audit-ready mindset. Our bigger focus will be ESG, with product LCAs for key ranges, reduction plans for energy, waste, and transport miles, higher recycled content in packaging, near-zero landfill waste, and greater use of renewable electricity.

On the IT side, we’ll remain secure-by-design and cloud-first, with zero-trust access, MFA, automated backups, and structured data governance. Cleaner integrations and robust cyber defences will underpin measurable ESG progress, faster evidence on demand, and a resilient digital backbone that makes doing the right thing easy.

Celebrating one year of Tecbond 214B, the world’s first biodegradable adhesive

In 2024, Power Adhesives made history.

With the launch of Tecbond 214B, we became the first manufacturer in the world to bring a fully certified biodegradable hot melt adhesive to market, an innovation that proved you don’t need to compromise on performance to meet the highest compostability standards.

One year later, that launch has grown into something bigger. A dedicated biodegradable range that’s helping packaging producers, converters, and brands stay ahead of tightening regulations like the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

Why Tecbond 214B was a game-changer

Tecbond 214B was designed to solve a growing challenge in sustainable packaging, that the adhesive often stands in the way of achieving full-pack compostability.Even if the main substrate, like a fibre board or compostable film, meets EN 13432 standards, a non-compostable adhesive can invalidate the claim entirely.

Tecbond 214B is:

  • Certified to EN 13432 (EU compostability standard) and ASTM D6400 (US equivalent)
  • Bio-based (45% renewable content)
  • Proven to degrade into CO₂, water, and humus under industrial composting conditions, without leaving microplastics or harmful residues
  • Engineered for strong, clean bonds in secondary packaging applications like carton sealing, wraparound trays, and box assembly

For converters and brands navigating the complex demands of PPWR, 214B offered a clear, compliant solution, without slowing production or compromising quality.

From breakthrough to biodegradable range

The success of Tecbond 214B opened the door for a second major innovation, Tecbond 110B-PR.This lower-temperature biodegradable hot melt delivers all the compostability benefits of 214B while having the potential to cut energy use during application, helping customers hit both compliance and carbon reduction targets.

Together, these products formed the world’s first biodegradable hot melt adhesive range, giving packaging producers more choice when designing for both sustainability and performance.

Proven in our own operations

We don’t just manufacture Tecbond 214B, we trust it in our own packaging. Every carton of Tecbond product leaving our facility is sealed with 214B, giving us first-hand confidence in its performance and compostability.

It’s our way of leading by example and proving that sustainability focused choices can meet the highest demands of packaging integrity, speed, and efficiency.

The PPWR advantage

As the PPWR implementation timeline moves forward, compostability requirements are becoming more defined and more critical.By mid-2027, certain packaging types must be compostable in industrial facilities, including:

  • Sticky labels on fruit and vegetables
  • Tea bags
  • Very lightweight carrier bags
  • …and potentially more formats in future delegated acts

Even for packs not in the ‘must compost’ category, brands are under pressure to prove biodegradability and compostability claims, with adhesives included in the assessment. By choosing EN 13432-certified adhesives like Tecbond 214B and 110B-PR, brands can be confident their adhesive won’t compromise their claim.

A year of progress backed by decades of expertise

The launch of Tecbond 214B was just the start. In the next phase of development, Power Adhesives is working on new biodegradable hot melt formulations to expand the range into more applications and substrates. This means more options for converters and brand owners looking to future-proof their packaging against evolving legislation, sustainability targets, and consumer expectations.

It’s been a landmark year for Power Adhesives, but our approach hasn’t changed:

  • We always listen to customer challenges
  • We use our technical expertise to design adhesives that solve them
  • We lead the market with innovation that’s proven, practical, and production-ready

From Tecbond 214B to the growing biodegradable range, we’re committed to helping the packaging industry bond sustainability with performance, today and for the future.

Why spray pattern consistency matters in composite and foam bonding

When it comes to composite bonding, the difference between a flawless finish and a costly rework often comes down to spray pattern consistency. Mastering the art of consistent spray application can help manufacturers maximise productivity, reduce waste, and ensure each bond is as strong as the last. With our sprayable hot melt adhesives and applicators, it’s easy to get it right every time.

Why spray pattern consistency is vital for composite and foam bonding

In sectors like vehicle fit-outs, product assembly, and shop fitting, the ability to bond composite panels and foams cleanly and reliably is crucial. Whether securing acoustic foam in a van lining or bonding rigid panels for a retail fixture, spray pattern consistency plays a major role in ensuring durability, aesthetics, and performance.

Inconsistent application can result in weak bonds, overspray, or uneven coverage which can lead to rework, waste, or even premature failure. Too little adhesive may cause materials to lift or delaminate, while excessive adhesive can add unnecessary weight, affect the look and feel of the finished product, or interfere with functionality.

Achieving a uniform spray pattern helps ensure the right amount of adhesive is delivered precisely where it’s needed (especially over large surface areas), supporting clean assembly, repeatable quality, and faster throughput.

How do you achieve consistent spray patterns with hot melt adhesives?

Maintaining consistent spray patterns with hot melt adhesives requires careful control over several variables:

  • Nozzle selection and maintenance: Applicators can be equipped with a variety of nozzle types to produce different spray patterns and widths. These nozzles should be regularly inspected and cleaned to prevent clogs that may disrupt the spray pattern.
  • Distance from substrate: Spraying adhesive too close to the substrate can cause an over-concentration of adhesive, increasing setting speeds, while being too far away may result in overspray and poor pattern definition. Maintaining a consistent distance between the applicator nozzle and the substrate will result in more consistent application.
  • Application speed and technique: Moving the spray gun at a steady, appropriate speed will help to avoid overly thick or thin adhesive patches.
  • Environmental conditions: Differences in temperature or humidity can affect the adhesive’s open time, leading to potential bonding issues when substrates are compressed. Monitoring and adjusting for these conditions ensure consistent bonding in line with the adhesive’s specifications.

Adjustable spray settings

Given the number of factors that need accounting for, applicators that come with adjustable spray settings offer invaluable tools for creating consistent adhesive patterns. These devices enable manufacturers to fine-tune adhesive coverage, reduce waste, and avoid patchy bonds or overspray. Everything from nozzle size to pressure can be adjusted, facilitating smooth, even adhesive application. Patterns can also be adjusted by modifying the air pressure, the distance the tool is from the substrate, and by adjusting the air regulation screw on the back end of the tool.

The Power Adhesives solution

Power Adhesives’ sprayable hot melt system is a revolutionary technology for the fast and efficient application of hot melt adhesives. This combination of advanced Tecbond adhesives and Tec applicators brings spray capability to offer a convenient, cost-effective, and consistent method for applying adhesive over large areas without compromising bond strength.

Compared with conventional adhesives, sprayable hotmelt formulations like Tecbond 425 swap hazardous propellants for compressed air to create a safer, consistent application. The adhesives themselves are made of 100% solid hot melt adhesive slugs and solvent-free, eliminating harmful volatile organic compound (VOCs) and protecting employees by creating a safer working environment.

Although Tecbond adhesives are predominantly used for bonding foam and heat sensitive materials like EPS, the range can adhere to almost any substrate, including many challenging materials like certain plastics. Available in five grades, this means that sprayable Tecbond adhesives offer a solution for most bonding applications, from pallet stabilisation to product assembly. This system has been successfully implemented across multiple industries to redefine large-scale bonding, and applications involving heat-sensitive substrates.

Excellence in applicators

These adhesives are designed to work seamlessly with our Tec 6300 and Tec 7300 applicator guns, which can be equipped with multiple different nozzles to tailor spray patterns for the required application, with options for narrow, medium, and wide-angle spray.

The Tec 6300 is a sleek, powerful introductory tool for the spray range. Designed to dispense adhesive in a swirl pattern, this applicator can dispense more than 4kg of adhesive per hour. The Tec 7300 expands on this capability with an increased output with the addition of a speed loader for longer spray periods with minimal downtime.

With both applicators, a simple pull of the pneumatic trigger feeds compressed air into the tool to force the mechanism forward and push adhesive into the heating element. The feed mechanism continues pushing the melted adhesive through the tool up to the nozzle, while the compressed air is then fed into the outlet fluted section, causing the adhesive to spiral and rapidly cool as it’s extruded. This results in a clean, consistent swirl spray pattern that traditional solvent-based aerosols can’t match.

People of Power Adhesives Keith Hampson, Adhesives Operations Director

As we celebrate 50 Years of Innovation at Power Adhesives, we are sitting down and talking with some of our brilliant team as part of our People of Power Adhesives Series.

Fifth up is Keith Hampson, Adhesives Operations Director. Keith joined Power Adhesives in its pre-Power Adhesives name days back in 1986 and was part of the company’s very first production run. During our chat, we discuss his early experiences, the company finding its feet, and his vision for the future.

How did your journey with Power Adhesives begin?

I joined the business in 1986 when it was still called Packaging Aids, a packing company with hot melt adhesives and applicators as part of its portfolio. Back then, we were mainly a distributor, sourcing most adhesives from a joint venture with Beardow & Adams in Milton Keynes, alongside some specialist products from Dexter Hysol in the US.

Then in 1989 an opportunity came up for Power Adhesives to purchase its own manufacturing line from Dexter Hysol, who were looking to shut down their plant in France.

This was an opportunity that we could not ignore, the deal was done. The plant was disassembled and transported back to the UK to a place called Barking in Essex, where we spent months putting it all together, with the help of hundreds of photographs and notes taken during the disassembly. This was the start of some scary but also very exciting times, as we had little or no experience in manufacturing hot melts.

What made you choose to stay with the company for so long?

2026 will be my 40th year, and whenever I’m asked why I stayed so long, I say there are many reasons. I loved going to work in the morning, learning something new every day, being part of a family business, who had become friends and not just work colleagues.

Being there for every part of the exciting journey that brought us to where we are today, not just as a world leader in shaped hotmelt adhesives but in applicators as well.

You worked on the first adhesive production run – a big day. What do you remember about it? What was the product being produced and did it go as smooth as hoped?

It was 1990, and the product was a packaging grade called 342-43, which we still make today some 35 years later. We had help from a Hysol technician from the US for the first two weeks, which was invaluable as we learned the process. That first run was exciting but intense. It wasn’t perfect, we made mistakes, but those early challenges were how we learned and improved.

How did things evolve after that initial run? What came next?

The next year was spent perfecting what we had learnt from every production run completed. Yes, we made mistakes along the way but that’s how we got better, and it wasn’t long before we actually knew what we were doing! We started to understand not only the process, but the adhesives themselves and how each of the formulations has its own unique way of being produced, depending on the viscosity and softening point.

My early years in this new venture were spent learning as much as possible from the people around me at that time, which included the then Production Manager and Plant Manager, who between them had a wealth of knowledge of manufacturing in different sectors. These two were instrumental in the early success of Power Adhesives, but none of this would have been possible without Steve Sweeney (then Technical Director), the eldest son of the Sweeney family, who had left university with a mechanical engineering degree, which would turn out to be invaluable to the business over the coming years.

Steve was the real brains behind the outfit, and in the coming years, had managed to teach himself basic chemistry and the understanding of what goes into not only making, but formulating a good shaped hot melt adhesive. Soon after, he became our acting Chemist. He always used to say, “I know enough about the chemistry to make me dangerous” and would laugh.

Do you have a personal favourite product or innovation from your time at Power Adhesives?

If I was to look back at my almost 40 year journey and had to pick a time or products that had a massive influence on the where we are today, it would be the handheld spray tool and formulations of the spray adhesives, which were a game changer for us and will still have a major part to play the in the continued growth of Power Adhesives.

Where do you see Power Adhesives in the next 5–10 years?

We have come a long way since we installed that first line 1989, and I’m looking forward to the next chapter in the continued growth of Power Adhesives, not just in the UK or Europe but also in America. Although we’ve recently changed ownership, our aim is still the same, to be the world leaders in shaped hot melt adhesives and applicators.

I do feel in the next decade, the adhesives industry will be heavily driven by sustainability, biodegradability and recyclable products, with the manufacturing processes also having to make many changes as we all work towards reducing our carbon footprint.

But if/when these challenges come Power Adhesives way, we will do what we have also done, face them, find a solution and move forward. This is what has gotten us to where we are today, and with the help of the fantastic team of people we have, from the long service, through to the new ones that have joined us, with years of experience in different sectors will help take Power to the next level. For me personally, I think the next level for us to increase sales of our adhesives and applicators in America by 100% over the next 5-10 years.

Bulk adhesives, the driving force in efficient automotive manufacturing

A car is more than just a tool for getting from A to B. Our cars are luxury products that we forge connections with – they are an experience, and a piece of high-end craftsmanship. These next-level machines are the result of next-level manufacturing, but as pressures mount on auto makers for faster production, lower weights, and higher environmental standards, the tools and materials used on the production floor are rapidly evolving.

Among the changes underway in the automotive sector is the growing use of bulk hot melt adhesives, like our Tecbond range, which provide a versatile and robust solution that keeps up with modern requirements while seamlessly integrating into production lines.

What are hot melt adhesives?

Hot melt adhesives are high-performing adhesives designed to set rather than cure. These products are supplied in solid form and melted, through heating, onto the surfaces to be bonded. Once applied, the adhesive rapidly solidifies without needing compression, forming long-lasting bonds within minutes. Bulk hot melt adhesives are designed for high-throughput operations, enabling consistent, scalable deployment across large-scale production environments.

Why choose hot melt adhesives for automotive applications?

One of the main drivers for using hot melt adhesives in the automotive industry is the efficiency they bring to manufacturing and assembly processes. Rather than replacing mechanical fasteners entirely, hot melt adhesives often work alongside them. For example, a process that might require ten fasteners could be reduced to around half when hot melt is used to provide additional bonding.

This complementary approach not only speeds up assembly but also reduces the number of drilling or fixing points, minimising labour and potential material damage. At the same time, adhesives distribute stress evenly across the bonded area, improving structural integrity and ensuring consistent, long-term performance.

Adhesives also offer greater flexibility to enhance the visual appeal of vehicles by reducing the need for unsightly staples or rivets. This grants designers greater control over the vehicle’s aesthetics, and their invisible application enables cleaner, sleeker designs.

Modern adhesives are also incredibly versatile tools designed to work well across a range of materials. Hot melt products can bond well with everything from aluminium to textiles, meaning one adhesive can often be used for multiple applications. This versatility extends to bonding with composite materials, enabling them to be used as a replacement for aerosols and adhesives with long-curing times, facilitating faster production and throughput.

How are hot melt adhesives used in automotive manufacturing?

The versatility of hot melt adhesives makes them ideal for multiple automotive manufacturing applications.

Interior fixings and finishings: Where aesthetic appeal matters most, hot melt adhesives enable the seamless attachment of finishing details to the vehicle’s interior to enhance its appearance. Their high bond strength and clean application reduce or remove the need for additional fasteners.  Because they can help to absorb vibrations and noise, their use also results in a quieter, smoother driving experience.

Oil filter manufacturing: In the hot space around the engine block, adhesives need to be able to withstand high temperatures without degrading. Hot melt adhesives like Tecbond 7785 are proven to withstand temperatures up to 160°C (before softening), ensuring reliable performance for oil filters. They are also highly resistant to oil and other chemicals commonly found in oil filters, providing peace of mind and long-lasting protection.

Body repair: Specific paintless dent repair formulations like Tecbond 246 provide strong temporary bonds that are easily removable after repair to revolutionise how body shops can repair minor dents and damage. These do not damage the paintwork, achieving superior results in a fraction of the time.

Can bulk hot melt adhesives improve sustainability?

The value of bulk adhesives extends beyond the process level. As vehicle manufacturers strive to meet stricter regulations, hot melt adhesives can also support sustainability improvements.

Because hot melt-adhesives are solvent-free, their use does not result in the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This avoids air pollution associated with other kinds of adhesives, protecting workers and creating a safer working environment.

Driving automotive manufacturing forward

As the automotive industry continues its evolution towards lighter, more efficient, and sustainable vehicles, the role of reliable bonding solutions has never been more critical. At Power Adhesives, our expertise in formulating and supplying high-performance bulk hot melt adhesives positions us as a trusted partner to manufacturers seeking greater efficiency, flexibility, and innovation in their production lines.

Biodegradable hot melt adhesives – the missing link in more sustainable packaging inserts

While fibre-based inserts, moulded pulp, and recycled board have transformed the sustainability of packaging, conventional adhesives have remained a stubborn obstacle – until now. Biodegradable adhesives like Tecbond 214B are emerging as the crucial bridge that enables strong, fast-setting bonds that keep packaging secure, while still ensuring that every component can safely return to the earth or the recycling stream.

The evolution of packaging inserts

The design of packaging inserts has shifted in recent years in response to rising sustainability requirements. Manufacturers are increasingly prioritising paper, paperboard, and moulded fibre as they seek alignment with environmental requirements. These recyclable and compostable materials maintain high durability and protection while supporting carbon and waste reduction targets, making it easier to keep pace with changing regulatory requirements and consumer expectations around sustainability.

In this landscape, choosing the right material for packaging inserts is critical for balancing product protection with low environmental impact. However, if manufacturers want to take sustainability to the next level, they must consider all elements of their packaging – including the adhesives that hold it together.

Choosing the right adhesives for packaging inserts

When selecting bonding solutions for packaging inserts, several key performance considerations must be made. Fast setting times support high-speed production and minimise assembly bottlenecks, and clean application reduces the risk of overspill or visible residue. This results in a seamless appearance that helps maintain brand presentation.

Compatibility with fibre-based substrates is another key consideration as many packaging inserts are made from materials like paper, cardboard, or moulded fibre. Bond strength and durability are also essential to maintain integrity during handling, shipping, and storage, preventing insert displacement and product damage.

The biodegradable hot melt revolution

Biodegradable hot melt adhesives offer all these benefits and more. Engineered for a minimal environmental impact, formulations like Tecbond 214B and Tecbond 110B-PR are ideal for use with fibre-based or compostable packaging inserts, as they can break down alongside them without contributing additional waste.

Unlike conventional adhesives, biodegradable formulations are specifically designed to break down naturally in the open environment without leaving behind harmful waste. Traditional adhesives must be separated prior to recycling as their presence would risk contaminating the paper fibres and making them unsuitable for reuse as high-quality packaging. This separation introduces additional complexity and cost, and the skimmed off adhesives will likely either be incinerated or landfilled, resulting in waste or carbon emissions. What’s more, if packaging does escape the recycling stream and ends up in landfill, the adhesives will persist in the environment as the packaging breaks down.

Biodegradable adhesives avoid these problems thanks to their innovative formulation. When packaging with biodegradable adhesives ends up in landfill environments, these adhesives degrade into water and carbon dioxide, when oxygen is present, leaving no microplastics or harmful residues behind. This process begins upon exposure to oxygen, heat, and UV light with no additional treatment required, meaning it’s easy to start creating packaging with a smaller waste footprint.

Designed to perform

Thanks to advances in adhesive formulation, biodegradable adhesives can offer comparable performance to conventional grades. Modern biodegradable adhesives like Tecbond 214B and 110B-PR deliver bond strength and fast setting times equivalent to traditional hot melts, ensuring that packaging inserts remain securely in place throughout the supply chain. These adhesives can be used with a wide range of paper and board inserts, making them suitable for diverse packaging applications without introducing hazardous substances.

The next step in packaging’s evolution

With rising expectations for more sustainable packaging, biodegradable adhesives help brands comply with regulations and appeal to environmentally conscious consumers. By using biodegradable adhesives, pack integrity is preserved during product use, and the packaging remains fully recyclable or compostable at end-of-life, helping brands meet sustainability goals and regulatory requirements without sacrificing performance.

Boosting sustainability efforts in composite manufacturing with Vactac

Sustainability is a central concern in today’s composite manufacturing sector. The drive to reduce emissions and minimise waste is reshaping every stage of production, and in this context, the choice of bonding solutions plays a critical role. High-performance adhesives like Vactac are vital for creating durable bonds as well as achieving sustainability targets and regulatory compliance.

How do bonding solutions affect sustainability in composites manufacturing?

Positioning adhesives play a critical role in composite manufacturing and is key to ensuring composite layers remain in place prior to resin infusion. However, the choice of adhesive can also have far-reaching implications for sustainability.

Conventional bonding methods often come with significant drawbacks for the environment. Many of the traditional positioning adhesive systems only contain around 15-20% adhesive material, with the rest comprising solvents and propellants that evaporate during application. This results in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) being released, which contribute to air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as posing a health risk to workers.

Besides their high solvent content and associated emissions, aerosol adhesives can cause resin contamination during vacuum infusion. If not correctly specified, the application of solvent-based adhesives can lead to dry spots which impairs resin flow and ultimately, comprised structural integrity. This not only threatens product quality but also increases the likelihood of waste and rework, further undermining sustainability goals.

How are regulations governing composites manufacturing evolving?

The regulatory landscape around sustainability in composites manufacturing is tightening, with governments and industry bodies introducing stricter controls on emissions, waste management, and worker safety. Manufacturers are under constant regulatory pressure to reduce VOC levels in their factories. They must also provide adequate personal protective equipment. In some cases, air filtration systems are required to safeguard employees from airborne particulates and hazardous fumes. These requirements add complexity and cost, making the search for safer, more environmentally responsible alternatives more urgent.

Why bulk adhesives are the future of manufacturing

Manufacturing as we know it is undergoing a profound transformation. As industries respond to evolving market demands, technological advancements, and ongoing calls for sustainability, bulk hot melt adhesives have emerged as a cornerstone technology.

Solutions like Tecbond offer manufacturers the tools they need to adapt in an evolving landscape. Providing a compelling blend of performance, efficiency, and environmental responsibility, this technology is set to play a pivotal role in the next era of industrial production.

What trends are driving change in manufacturing?

Several powerful factors are prompting profound shifts in the manufacturing industry. Sustainability continues to be a central concern, with businesses and regulators demanding reduced waste and more eco-conscious production methods. Action against volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions remains a priority, as does lightweighting and material innovation.

Meanwhile, the drive towards smart manufacturing and digitalisation is accelerating. Factories are increasingly embracing automation and artificial intelligence to enhance their operations. Speed and throughput are key objectives, and manufacturers need bonding solutions that can match modern high-speed processes at accessible price points.

How do bulk hot melt adhesives meet emerging manufacturing demands?

Bulk hot melt adhesives offer several advantages that directly address these industry trends. Unlike conventional bonding methods, which can suffer from inconsistent results and lengthy curing times, hot melt adhesives create an almost instant bond. This rapid setting eliminates production bottlenecks, enhances throughput, and reduces downtime – critical benefits for evolving, fast-paced manufacturing environments.

Cost efficiency is another significant benefit. Hot melts like Tecbond generate minimal waste and can be applied at lower temperatures, reducing energy consumption and maintenance costs. Their clean-running properties means less charring and fewer nozzle blockages, ensuring smooth, uninterrupted production. For manufacturers grappling with rising material costs, these efficiencies can contribute to healthier margins and more consistent operations.

Versatility across industries

The versatility of bulk hot melt adhesives is unmatched. They are compatible with a wide array of substrates, from paper and board to timber, foam, metals, and advanced composites. This makes them ideal for diverse applications, including packaging, product assembly, construction, and electronics. Manufacturers can further customise formulations to achieve specific characteristics such as extended open times or heightened temperature resistance, ensuring optimal performance for every application.

Designed for sustainability

As sustainability becomes a non-negotiable priority, bulk hot melt adhesives stand out for their more environmentally responsible credentials. Being solvent-free, they eliminate the release of VOCs, creating safer workplaces and reducing environmental impact. Their solid formulations enable users to utilise 100% of what they buy, meaning less waste, and in turn, supporting manufacturers’ efforts to meet stringent ESG targets and regulatory requirements, particularly our range of biodegradable adhesives, Tecbond 214B and 110B-PR.
