As Marketing Manager, Carly has spent the last 15 years helping shape the voice, identity, and direction of the Power brand. Carly spoke to us about how both her role and the business have evolved over the years, alongside highlighting some of her proudest moments during her time at Power.

Background & Journey

1. How did your journey with Power Adhesives begin?

I started with the business in 2011 as a junior member of the Media team. I worked on a lot of the company’s print materials, including brochures, leaflets and catalogues, and wrote copy for press releases, blogs and emails.

2. What made you choose to stay with the company for so long?

Power Adhesives is a good company to work for, and I’ve been lucky that my role has grown as my skills and knowledge have developed. I’ve been able to grow professionally through different opportunities for progression and training, which I’m very grateful for.

3. How has your role evolved over the years?

I started out in a junior creative role working on marketing materials and copy and gradually took on more responsibility running projects and campaigns, and in 2019 was promoted to Marketing Manager. I was able to study for a CIM qualification a few years later and now have overall responsibility for Marketing within the business, creating the marketing strategy and plan, as well as managing the delivery and budget.

5. What’s one innovation or project you’ve worked on that you’re most proud of?

The new website and brand refresh project was a whole team effort, but simplifying our portfolio of sub brands, creating a stronger story to improve brand recognition, and redesigning the website journey with the user in mind were huge projects and I’m proud of the work that the team did and the difference it’s made.

6. How does Power Adhesives stay ahead in the industry?

As the only manufacturer that designs and produces a complete hot melt system, we have full control over the results and that’s a great proposition for our customers, especially combined with the technical support that we offer. As a business we’re constantly innovating and have pioneered new technologies such as spray and biodegradable hot melts, and I’m sure there’ll be more to come.

7. How have you seen technology or processes change since you started?

There’s been a lot of change! The Media team that I first became part of has evolved over the years to become the Marketing function of the business, performing a much more central role in the company’s growth and direction. More structured processes have also been introduced throughout the business as it’s grown, supported by new technology like the recent introduction of a new CRM.

8. What do you enjoy most about working with your team?

There’s a strong sense of teamwork and collaboration throughout the business, but there’s a particularly supportive culture within the Marketing team where we share ideas and ownership and pull together when there’s pressure to meet a deadline.

9. Are there any mentors or colleagues who have had a big impact on your career?

I’ve been lucky enough to work with a lot of talented, knowledgeable people over the years and I’ve learned from all of them. My line managers in the Media team taught me a lot about running a department, connecting with people and creating a team culture, as well as supporting my growth with new opportunities. Our previous company Directors, and Julia Edmeades, were also incredibly supportive of my development when I first stepped into my current role.

10. Where do you see Power Adhesives heading in the next 5–10 years?

I think Power Adhesives will continue innovating and challenging what’s possible with hot melt adhesives, while expanding into new markets and strengthening its distributor base even further.
